FOX Sports West and the University of Southern California are teaming up for a fourth semester to engage first-year graduate students in a real-life marketing and research project. Specifically, the 2011 assignment focuses on researching the demographic and consumption habits of high school sports fans – as FOX Sports West looks to enhance its new digital offerings: Prep Zone and Prep Zone Live. Having launched just one week following the start of USC’s 2011 Fall Semester, Prep Zone is the new home page for CIF-Southern Section and high school sports coverage on FoxSportsWest.com while Prep Zone Live is the interactive video player that lives within the Prep Zone page every Friday night featuring four high school football games streamed live, plus an integrated studio host channel guiding users to the best action of the night. The students, led by Professor Kimberlie Stephens, will research users of the Prep Zone content, attend high school games and behind the scenes studio tours throughout the semester, and will then present their findings with suggested on-air and online marketing campaign tactics to the FOX Sports West team. The winning campaign will be incorporated into a multi-media campaign that will launch in Fall 2012.
